
Six-Run Seventh Pushes BayBears Past Biloxi

BILOXI, Miss. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, stormed back with eight unanswered runs to defeat the Biloxi Shuckers 8-2 in the series opener Sunday at MGM Park.
After tying the game with runs in the fifth and sixth, the BayBears (32-47 overall, 5-6 second half) exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh. Jhoan Urena put Mobile in front with a two-run single off Cameron Roegner (1-3). Two batters later, Zane Gurwitz hit his first career grand slam. Gurwitz finished the game a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a career-high four RBIs.
For the second straight outing, Andrew Wantz struck out seven Biloxi (45-36, 4-7) batters in a five-inning start. He allowed two runs on five hits and did not factor in the decision.
Adam Hofacket (2-2) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief. The BayBears bullpen has not allowed a run in 12 consecutive innings.
The BayBears continue the four-game road series against Biloxi Monday at 6:35 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Tyler Carpenter (0-0, 2.45 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Alec Bettinger (4-5, 3.94 ERA) for the Shuckers.
