Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle swept a doubleheader from the Palm Beach Cardinals on Friday night at Hammond Stadium to run their winning streak to five games. The Miracle won game one, 4-0, before taking the second game, 7-3.

In the nightcap, the Miracle, playing as the Key West Conchs on throwback night, erupted for six runs in the second inning. The Conchs collected seven hits and sent 12 men to the plate.

Ryan Costello led off the inning with a double before Andrew Bechtold knocked him in with a double down the right-field line. An RBI triple from Trey Cabbage and a run scoring single from Michael Helman pushed the lead to 3-0. Later in the inning, after an RBI single from Gabriel Maciel, Jose Miranda knocked in two runs with a single to left-center to make it 6-0.

Palm Beach cut the deficit to 6-2 in the fifth on an Imeldo Diaz two-run single. The Cardinals threatened in the sixth, as they loaded the bases with one out, but Rickey Ramirez collected back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.

In the bottom of the sixth, Miranda knocked in his third run of game two, and fourth of the doubleheader, with a two-out single.

Melvi Acosta (5-3) started for the Conchs and earned the win after allowing two runs in 5.1 innings. Acosta walked two and struck out five. Ramirez earned his first save. The right-hander allowed one run in 1.2 innings.

In game one, the Miracle scored a pair of unearned runs in the first before striking for two runs in the fourth on two-out run scoring hits from Cabbage and Helman.

Blayne Enlow started for Fort Myers but tossed just one plus inning before exiting due to injury. Joe Record (2-2) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief. Record inherited a bases loaded, no out jam following Enlow's injury, but retired the next three batters to escape the threat.

The four-game series continues on Saturday night in Fort Myers. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
