Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 24, 2013) - The Carolina Mudcats scored six in the second and cruised to an 8-2 victory over Winston-Salem in the opener of a four-game series Wednesday night at BB&T Ballpark.
After a scoreless first frame on both sides, Carolina (17-14, 39-62) opened the contest's scoring in the second with six runs. The first two came across on a two-run double by Erik Gonzalez in his first High-A at-bat. Alex Lavisky, Tyler Naquin and Joey Wendle also added RBI singles, while another tally came in on an error.
Winston-Salem (15-17, 53-49) tallied its first run of the night in the third against Shawn Morimando (7-9). With two down, Micah Johnson hustled his way to a bloop double before being chased home thanks to an infield base hit from Joey DeMichele.
The Dash crawled a run closer in the sixth. Chris Curley took Morimando deep for his 21st homer of the season, tying him with former Lynchburg Hillcat Robby Hefflinger for the most in the Carolina League in 2013.
Morimando lasted six frames to earn his seventh quality start of the campaign and beat Winston for the third time this season.
Blough recovered after his tough second, tossing six frames and retiring the final five he faced.
Max Peterson took over for Blough, retiring all six he faced, making it 11 straight Mudcats retired by Winston-Salem pitching.
