Winston-Salem Dash News Release

DASH POWER PAST KEYS IN RUBBER TILT The Dash banged out a season high-tying 20 hits in a 13-2 rout over the Frederick Keys Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark. Winston-Salem posted five multi-run innings and led throughout the contest. All nine starters mustered at least one hit, while eight players scored at least once and six drove in a run. The win propelled the Dash to their first home series win over the Keys since May 28-31, 2012, which was the two clubs' first matchup in the Triad a year ago.

BEATING HEART Winston-Salem rolled to victory Tuesday largely due to the offensive prowess of the heart of its lineup. The top five men in the Dash's order combined to hit .500 (13-for-26) with 11 RBIs and nine runs scored and seven extra-base hits. The Dash lead the Carolina League in both runs per game (5.4) and home runs (93).

CURLEY'S CLIMB With 20 home runs, Dash infielder Chris Curley trails only former Lynchburg slugger Robby Hefflinger (21) for the Carolina League lead. Curley is the fifth player in the Dash era (2009-present) to hit 20 or more homers in a single season. He also raised his league-leading RBI total to 76 with three runs driven in Tuesday. His 76 RBIs are good for a share of 10th place in the minors and a tie for second in High-A. The Fort Mitchell, Ky., native also paces the CL with 112 hits, 69 runs scored and 194 total bases.

FLYING RIGHT BEHIND CURLEY Curley's closest threat to his home run total among active CL hitters is teammate Courtney Hawkins, who hit his 18th long ball of the season on Tuesday as part of his four-RBI night. Curley and Hawkins are one of four teammate duos in the minors that are in the top three in their league in homers: Brock Peterson (22, 1st) and Jamie Romak (19, T-2nd) of Memphis, Adam Brett Walker II (22, 1st) and Travis Harrison (15, T-2nd) of Cedar Rapids and Ryan Rua (28, 1st) and Joey Gallo (26, 2nd) of Hickory.

CLEVELAND ROCKED Winston-Salem owns the best home record in the minors since BB&T Ballpark opened in 2010 (162-99, .621), and no organization knows more about this dominance than Cleveland. Since the 2010 season, Winston-Salem is 32-6 (.838) against the Tribe's Carolina League affiliate (Kinston in 2010-11; Carolina in 2012-13) at BB&T Ballpark (regular season and postseason). The Indians' High-A squad has not won a series in the Triad since August 28-31, 2007, a streak that stands at 17 consecutive sets.

ATOP MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL Winston-Salem infielder Micah Johnson, who recorded his seventh multi-hit game in his 18th High-A start, paces all minor league players with 68 stolen bases and 85 runs scored. Within the stolen base category, Lake Elsinore's Travis Jankowski is second with 59 swipes, while Louisville's Billy Hamilton places third with 58. As for runs, Johnson leads the second-place trio of Lancaster outfielder Andrew Aplin, Fort Myers outfielder Byron Buxton and Reno infielder Chris Owings by three for the top spot.

NEWMAN'S RETURN Dash manager Ryan Newman returns to the dugout after missing the club's previous 10 games. He flew home to Arizona to tend to his wife Meghan, who had the family's second child. His name is Jax, and he joins his older brother William in the family. Hitting coach Rob Sasser temporarily assumed the Dash's managerial duties during Newman's absence, and the club went 3-7 with Sasser in charge.

DASH DOTS Winston-Salem improved to 4-5 in rubber games this season with Tuesday's victory...Against the Mudcats this year, the Dash are 5-1 at home, yet they finished 3-7 in Zebulon...Rangel Ravelo would lead the CL in batting average (.317) if he qualified...If he averages four plate appearances over the next 13 games, Ravelo will qualify for the Carolina League batting title.
