FREDERICK, MD - A big six run fifth inning pushed High Point to a series opening win over the Ghost Hounds on Friday. The Rockers took the opener 10-6, with Mickey Jannis picking up his 11th win of the year.

The Rockers struck first on Friday when Ben Aklinski hit a sac fly to deep left field, scoring Shed Long Jr.

Steven Brault, in his first start in the leadoff spot, took Jannis deep to right field in the third inning, which put the Ghost Hounds up 3-1. Osvaldo Abreu added a solo home run of his own in the fourth.

But the fifth inning is where things went off the rails for Spire City. Michael Martinez popped up to third base, but the ball was dropped by Jimmy Paredes, who seemed to lose the ball in the lights. Shed Long Jr immediately took advantage, driving a two run home run to left field to tie the game up. Singles by Ryan Grotjohn, Brian Parreira, and Martinez capped off a six spot in the inning, which made it 8-4 Rockers.

Zander Wiel homered to left field off of new arm Nate Peden in the sixth, his 25th of the season, which pushed the lead to 10-4.

The Ghost Hounds did their best to chip away at the deficit. Steven Brault doubled to lead off the seventh, and scored on a base hit by Craig Dedelow. Dedelow then scored on a Raudy Read groundout.

That would be all the Ghost Hounds could manage, however, as they stranded a pair in the eighth before going down in order against Ryan Dull in the ninth.
