Six-Run Fifth Thrusts Revs Past Sugar Land

York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.) - York pounded out 15 hits, including seven in a six-run fifth inning, as the Revolution downed the Skeeters 9-1 at PeoplesBank Park on Friday night. The win snaps the Revs' (4-5) four-game losing streak and gives them their first home win of the season. They will try and make it two in a row in another matchup with the Skeeters (5-4) on Saturday night.

Already up 3-1, Jason Repko led the bottom of the fifth off by beating out an infield single. He then went to second on an errant pickoff attempt by Sugar Land starter Ian Marshall. Two batters later, Telvin Nash hit a two-out fly ball to center field that Josh Prince dropped, allowing Repko to score to make it 4-1.

The floodgates opened from there as Joel Guzman knocked a base hit up the middle to score Nash. Bryan Pounds and James Simmons followed with back-to-back RBI doubles and after Keith Castillo singled, Michael Rockett legged out a run-scoring infield single. Repko capped the inning with another base hit to make it 9-1 and give the game its final margin.

The bullpen took over from there as four relievers combined to finish what righty Matt Neil started. Michael Click handled two perfect innings after inheriting a baserunner from Mariel Checo in the sixth, while Ricardo Gomez and Mike DeMark handled the eighth and ninth, respectively.

Neil (1-0) earned his first win of the season by allowing one run on two hits in five innings, walking four and striking out one on 80 pitches.

Marshall (0-2) was hit with the loss after allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits in 4.2 frames.

York kicked off the scoring in the second inning. Guzman banged a leadoff single off the Arch Nemesis, then after a fly out and a strikeout, Castillo ripped a double to the left center gap. Guzman raced home and the throw appeared to beat him, but Sugar Land catcher Wilfredo Rodriguez dropped the ball, allowing Guzman to score and make it 1-0.

The Skeeters tied it on a Keith Matthes solo homer in the third, but the Revs returned the favor in the fourth. Guzman started another rally with a one-out double, coming home on Pounds' base knock. Rockett eventually plated Pounds on a two-out single.

Guzman kept Sugar Land pitching in fits all night long, going 4-for-4 with a double, RBI, and three runs. Pounds and Rockett each went 2-for-4 with a pair driven in, and Pounds scored two runs himself.

Andy LaRoche's one-out single in the second was the only other hit for the Skeeters.

Notes: York's nine runs and 15 hits were its most of the season. The Revs' eight-run margin was their biggest win over Sugar Land since June 19, 2012 when York won 17-2. Jason Repko is now on a nine-game hitting streak to start the season, hitting .300 (12-for-40) so far. York will send righty James Simmons to the hill against Skeeter southpaw Bryan Morgado on Saturday night. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Saturday will feature inside the park fireworks presented by MAHLE Aftermarket for the first time this season, as well as a welcome mat giveaway presented by PeoplesBank. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
