(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (4-5) defeated the New Britain Bees (4-5) 3-1 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday night to even up the four game opening weekend series at a victory apiece. Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo picked up a no decision in five innings of work while giving up just one run on one hit, walking three, striking out five, and throwing two wild pitches. New Britain Starting Pitcher Brian Dupra (also did not factor in the game's final outcome, lasting five innings, allowing one run on three hits, walking one, striking out five, and hitting one batter. David Carpenter retired the Bees in order in the ninth inning, striking out a pair to earn his second save of the season.

Bridgeport got on the board first off Dupra in the bottom half of the second inning on an opposite field RBI single by Rossmel Perez, plating Luis Rodriguez with the first run of the contest. New Britain answered off Albaladejo in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Hewitt, scoring Jonathan Roof to tie the game up at one apiece. The game remained all square as the battle of the bullpens moved all the way to the bottom half of the eighht inning, where Bridgeport took their second lead of the night and never relinquished it. With Zeid laboring in his third inning of relief, Jiwan James set the table for a rally with a leadoff walk. After a Ruben Sosa Jr. "swinging bunt" to the right side moved James up into scoring position, Luis Hernandez reached on a throwing error by former Bluefish Jovan Rosa and Bridgeport had two men on for Dan Johnson, who laced a hot smash to first base off of the glove of Jon Griffin and into right field, bringing home James with the lead run and moving Hernandez over to third base, who would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Jose Cuevas to make it 3-1 in favor of the home team. That was more than enough for Carpenter, who combined with Thompson and David Kubiak to strike out nine overall batters while allowing just five hits in four shutout innings of relief. Wilkin Ramirez, Johnson, Rodriguez, Perez, and Sosa Jr. had each of the five hits for the Bluefish on the evening.

Bridgeport continues their series with the New Britain Bees at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday, April 29th. First pitch is scheduled for 1:12 P.M.
