New Britain Bees News Release
The New Britain Bees dropped their second game of a four game road trip on Friday night, as the Bridgeport Bluefish scored twice in the eighth inning en route to a 3-1 win at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport. Brian Dupra, making his first start of the season, pitched five strong innings in the loss, striking out five.
The Bluefish got on the board first with an RBI single coming from Rossmel Perez in the second inning, but New Britain would tie the game in the fifth, as Jonathan Roof reached base on a dropped third strike. Roof stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then score on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Hewitt.
The game remained tied at one until the eighth. Josh Zeid, on in relief of Dupra, ran into trouble in his third inning of work, walking the leadoff hitter Jiwan James. Ruben Sosa, Jr., the Bridgeport leadoff hitter, then advanced James to second on a ground ball, before an error by Bees' third baseman Jovan Rosa allowed Luis Hernandez to reach base and James to advance to third. Dan Johnson, the minor league veteran, then singled to score James, before Jose Cuevas hit a sacrifice fly to give the Bluefish an insurance run. Shawn Haviland then came in for the Bees to strike out Josh Vitters to end the Bridgeport threat.
In the ninth, the Bees faced former Yankee David Carpenter, who shut the door for his second save of the season.
