Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The United Hockey League announced the 2007 All-Star Team members on Wednesday and the Rockford IceHogs will have six representatives at the annual game on Wednesday, Jan. 17 in Fort Wayne. The six All-Stars ties the IceHogs high water mark originally set when six Rockford skaters suited up in the 2005 All-Star Game in Adirondack.
Representing Rockford for the Western Conference club includes goaltender Frederic Cloutier, defensemen Matt Gens and Nathan Lutz and forwards Kevin Ulanski, Nicolas Corbeil and Kaleb Betts. The IceHogs tied the Fort Wayne Komets for most members on the Western Conference squad. The IceHogs and Komets team members will be matched up with players from the Bloomington PrairieThunder, Chicago Hounds and Quad City Mallards.
Cloutier, who is the fourth rated goalie in the UHL entering Week 13, was also named the UHL Goaltender of the Week for Week 12. The honor is the second of the season for Cloutier and is the second goalie in Hogs history to win the Goalie of the Week award twice in one season. Former IceHogs puck-stopper J.F. Rivard won the award twice during the Hogs inaugural season in 1999-2000. Cloutier was also named top goalie following Week 6.
During Week 12, Cloutier compiled a 2-1-0 record with a remarkable save percentage of .957 and a goals against average of 1.32. On Friday night, Cloutier earned his first shutout of the season in a 35 save performance over the Chicago Hounds. Overall in "Ë06-07, Cloutier has a save percentage of .917 and goals against average of 2.48.
Cloutier will be joined by five others in Fort Wayne for the All-Star game. For Lutz, the All-Star appearance is his second with the IceHogs as he played in the 2005 game in Adirondack. The Hogs team captain leads all Rockford d-men in scoring with 3g-14a-17pts in 31 games. Gens, a UHL All-Rookie Team member a season ago, makes his first trip to the All-Star game.
The line combination of Ulanski, Corbeil and Betts was rewarded for their consistency, all three punching tickets to the mid-season get together. Ulanski has led the IceHogs in scoring for nearly two months and has 8g-22a-30pts on the campaign. Corbeil and Betts have been on the receiving end of most of Ulanski's team-leading 22 helpers, as the duo is one-two on the club in goals with Corbeil leading the way with 14 and Betts close behind at 13.
Next Home Game: Friday, Jan. 5 vs. Bloomington PrairieThunder. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. The Hogs play their first game at the MetroCentre in 2007 and open a season long five-game homestand. The game also marks the final of three straight against Bloomington. The first 1,000 fans will receive IceHogs Poster #4 courtesy of Pepsi, Medicine Man, Johnson Press and the Rockford Register Star.
Saturday, Jan. 6 vs. Kalamazoo Wings. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Wings mix it up once again at the MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive an IceHogs Fleece Stadium Blanket from Lonnie's Carpet Max.
