
UHL names players of the week

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Wednesday that Quad City Mallards forward Luke Stauffacher has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Rockford IceHogs goaltender Frederic Cloutier has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 31st, 2006.
Stauffacher completed the week with nine points (4g, 5a) and a plus-8 rating in four games played. The day after Christmas, he registered two points (1g, 1a) in the 6-4 win vs. Chicago. He recorded a point on each of the first six goals (2g, 4a) by the Mallards in Saturday's 7-4 win vs. Flint. The six points is a season high for any player in the UHL. Stauffacher ended the week with a goal in the 4-2 win vs. Muskegon on Sunday. The 26-year-old native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin currently leads the Mallards with a plus-7 rating. After scoring five goals through his first 24 games of the season, he has netted seven goals over his last six games.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Alex Goupil, Elmira center Tommy Kotsopoulos, Flint center Terry Marchant, Fort Wayne center J.C. Ruid, Kalamazoo left wing Lucas Drake, Muskegon left wing Mike Watt, Port Huron center Greg Bullock, and Rockford center Preston Mizzi.
Cloutier finished the week with a 2-1-0 record, a 1.32 goals against average (GAA), a .957 save percentage (SPCT), and one shutout. He made 35 saves in the 3-1 win over Fort Wayne the day after Christmas. On Friday, he stopped all 25 Chicago shots during the 3-0 win to earn his first shutout of the season. He made 28 saves in the 3-2 loss to Muskegon on Saturday. The 25-year-old native of Saint-Honore, Quebec currently ranks fourth among UHL goaltenders in both GAA (2.48) and SPCT (.917). It is the second weekly honor for Cloutier who has posted a 12-11-0 record this season.
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Chicago's Marty Magers, Elmira's David Lemanowicz, Flint's Jason Muzzatti, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre, Kalamazoo's Tom Askey, Muskegon's Clayton Pool, Port Huron's Noah Ruden, and Quad City's Zach Sikich.
