Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Sloppy defense from the Amarillo Dillas and big homers from the San Angelo Colts were the undoing for Amarillo on Monday night, falling 14-8 to the Colts in front of 3,091 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas starter Ralph Roberts (0-1) got the loss as he went four plus innings and allowed ten of the 14 Colts runs. San Angelo starter Caleb Rodgers (1-0) got the victory despite six runs in five innings of work while striking out five.

Amarillo started the scoring in the first as Joaquin Rodriguez doubled and scored on an Alberto Cruz RBI single. Following a Matt Ceriani single, Douglas sent a 1-1 pitch over the right-centerfield wall for a 4-0 Dillas lead.

The Colts would strike back in the second as Jason Crosland hit a homerun of his own, scoring two runs to bring the score within two, though Amarillo would come back with more in the second. Adam De La Garza popped up to the infield, but the ball was dropped allowing him to go to second. He would come across on a Rodriguez RBI single for a 5-2 Dillas lead.

San Angelo hammered back in the fourth inning after an Adam Hale solo homer and a Butch Ballez two-run shot tied the game. Ronnie Gaines reached on a strikeout/wild pitch, followed by a walk. Jason Landreth delivered a two-run double and scored on an error for an 8-5 Colts lead.

The Colts added two more in the fifth while Amarillo responded with a solo homerun from Rodriguez in the bottom half. San Angelo scored again on a Michael Pettibone double and once again in the seventh on a Josh Collazo RBI single for a 12-6 San Angelo lead.

Another two unearned runs would score in the eighth off to give the Colts an eight-run lead. The Dillas got two runs off a two-RBI triple by Adam De La Garza in the eighth, but that would be all they could muster as San Angelo claimed victory at 14-8.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 3-2, while the Colts improve to 2-3. Tuesday, Amarillo faces off against San Angelo for the final game of a four-game series at 7:05pm.
