Six errors cost Dillas in 10-4 loss to Broncos

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas committed six errors and couldn't ever get their bats going consistently on Sunday night, resulting in a 10-4 loss to the Laredo Broncos in front of 1,830 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Ryan Mitchell (5-3) got the loss in five innings, gave up five earned runs of eight hits while striking out seven. Broncos starter Matt Gibbs (5-3) got the win in seven innings, allowing four runs off seven hits with five strikeouts.
Laredo got on the board first in the first inning as DJ Dixon singled with two outs, Jomel Pacheco was hit by a pitch while Jonathan Cisneros singled to left to score Dixon while Pacheco scored on an error for a two-run Broncos lead. Jason Diaz hit an RBI single in the second for a 3-0 lead.
Amarillo got their first run in the second inning as Julio Martinez singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on an Andrew Wong RBI groundout for a 3-1 score.
The Broncos scored again in the fourth as Jonathan Dziomba reached on an error, stole second and scored on a Carlos Arroyo RBI single for a three-run advantage. They added two more in the fifth as Salvador Paniagua hit an RBI sacrifice fly and Dziomba hit an RBI double for a 6-1 lead.
Laredo broke things open in the sixth as they scored four runs off only one hit, one error and four walks for a 10-1 lead.
The Dillas got three runs back in the sixth as Martinez hit a three-run homerun to pull the deficit within six, but couldn't get anything else going to fall to Broncos 10-4.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 40-31 while the Broncos improve to 33-38. Monday, Amarillo will take on the Broncos for the second game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout. The game is free of admission courtesy of KVII ProNews 7.
