20 walks combined, Dillas come out on top of Broncos 13-11

AMARILLO, TX - 20 walks from Amarillo Dillas and Laredo Broncos pitchers meant a long night, but a big eighth inning and a three RBI day from Brian Bueno gave the Dillas a 13-11 win on Saturday night in front of 2,235 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas reliever Chris Ingoglia (3-2) got the win, allowing a run in the one inning he pitched. Broncos reliever Thomas Vassella (0-1) got the loss, as the one batter he faced scored the go-ahead run in the seventh. Amarillo closer Ramon Geronimo got his 16th save, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth.

Laredo took an early lead as Jason Diaz led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a DJ Dixon RBI double for a one-run lead. Amarillo responded in the first as Adam De La Garza, Joaquin Rodriguez and Carlos Figueroa led off with walks to load the bases. Julio Martinez hit a sacrifice fly while Alberto Cruz doubled to score Figueroa for 2-1 Dillas lead.

The Broncos retook the lead in the third as Diaz walked and scored after two steals and a Dixon RBI single. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch later, Dixon scored for a 3-2 Laredo lead.

Amarillo broke through again in the third as Figueroa and Stephen Douglas walked, Rob Recuenco singled to load the bases, while Brian Bueno doubled to score all three runners. Andrew Wong followed with an RBI double to score Bueno for a 6-3 Dillas lead.

Laredo chipped away with two runs on RBI singles in the fourth by Dixon and Jonel Pacheco, then tied the game in the fifth as Diaz hit an RBI single to tie the score. Salvador Paniagua hit a three-run homerun in the sixth to give the Broncos the lead. Doug Thennis hit an RBI single later in the inning for a 10-6 advantage.

The Dillas scored in the sixth as De La Garza walked and scored on a Rodriguez RBI double. Rodriguez went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Julio Martinez RBI groundout for a two-run game. Laredo added another run in the seventh as Jonathan Cisneros hit an RBI single for a 11-8 lead.

Amarillo broke through in the eighth. Recuenco singled to lead off, Bueno was hit by a pitch, while Won g singled to score Recuenco. De La Garza grounded out to move the runners to second and third, while Rodriguez walked to load the bases. Figueroa singled to score Bueno while Martinez reached on an error to extend the inning and tie the game. Douglas followed with an RBI single while Cruz walked and Recuenco walked with the bases loaded to give the Dillas a 13-11 lead. Geronimo pitched a perfect ninth to preserve the two-run victory.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 40-30 while the Broncos fall to 32-38. Sunday, Amarillo will take on the Broncos for the second game of a four-game set at 6:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 5:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com.
