Hereaud, Teilon Lift Roadrunners Past Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas---Carlos Hereaud and Nelson Teilon each hit a two-run home run helping the Edinburg Roadrunners defeat the Coastal Bend Thunder 4-2 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Edinburg (40-26) extended their lead to two and a half games in the standings over Amarillo with the win over Coastal Bend.

Jose Pablo Oyervidez (2-0) matched J.J. Trujillo through the first five innings of the ball game allowing just one hit.

The ball game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Ambiorix Concepcion started the inning with a single to left off of reliever Luis Martinez (0-1). Carlos Hereaud followed with a two-run home run, his ninth of the season, giving the Roadrunners the 2-0 lead.

The Thunder (25-44) answered in the top of the seventh against Oyervidez. Patty Matera led off with a single and then moved to second on a ground out by Lamar Guy. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Matera came into score on an RBI single by Kevin Butler. Dustin Smith followed with a single and then a fielding error allowed Butler to score tying the game at two.

In the bottom of the seventh, Wilson Batista was walked after one out in the inning. Nelson Teilon followed with a two-run home run off of Martinez that gave the Roadrunners the 4-2 lead.

Ray Silva and Julio Castro pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings giving Edinburg the 4-2 victory. Castro struck out the side in the ninth picking up his 19th save of the season.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will play a doubleheader Monday evening at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines (3-7) is expected to start game one with Evan Cunningham starting game two for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
