Saskatoon Blades News Release
Six members of the Saskatoon Blades and the Saskatoon Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be making the trip to Vancouver as part of "Project Face-off". It's a partnership aimed at helping educate youth on issues of substance abuse, healthy and drug free lifestyles. This is the 3rd Annual Project Face-off for the Saskatoon Blades. Making the trip this year is Ben Van Lare, Dalyn Flatt, Aaron Bader, Joe Barnes, Ryan Menei & Evan Haw. A year ago had Ryan Keller, Tanner Shultz, Derek Couture, Marcus Paulsson, Mike Green and Adam Ward make the trip to Vancouver, return, and educate Saskatoon's youth of the dangers of substance abuse.
The term Project Face-Off was developed to show a partnership with the sport of hockey and the police. The term "FACE-OFF" signifies the RCMP and the Saskatoon Blades "Facing Off" against drugs.
The program will see the 6 members of the Saskatoon Blades join members of the RCMP who will volunteer to participate in presentations to grades seven and eight students in schools in and around the Saskatoon area. In order to enhance the players presentations, members of the RCMP will be taking the six selected Blades players to the skid row area (Hastings Street) of Vancouver B.C., to expose them to the results of substance abuse. They will be in Vancouver October 6th and 7th. The players, along with the RCMP, will be returning on Thursday October 7th at 5:30pm at the Saskatoon Airport. By taking this trip the players will then share their experience with the students.
Numerous corporate partners have committed to the Project and it's delivery: Shaw Cable Systems, Ghost Transport, Old Dutch, M.D. Ambulance, Terry Gulaga of Hallmark Realty, Keith Tallon of Independent Financial, Park Town Hotel, and Mac's Convenience Stores.
The true benefits of Project Face-Off will only be realized when this unique initiative is implemented and used in support of other Blades based drug and lifestyle initiatives. The benefits to the Saskatoon and area youth is unlimited.
The Blades host the Red Deer Rebel here tomorrow night at the Credit Union Centre. Game time is 7:00pm. Individual seats can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 938.7800 or on-line at Ticketmaster.ca. Group seats can be purchased by calling the Blades Ticket Team at 975.8844. Bleed Blue.
