Sioux Falls Completes Comeback, Wins 5-4 in Overtime

Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
The Dubuque Fighting Saints fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede, 5-4 at Denny Sanford Premier Center on Thursday night. Dubuque looked to be in control heading in to the third period, but four unanswered goals by Sioux Falls gave them the comeback victory. Dubuque did manage to get a point in overtime, but late penalties cost the Fighting Saints two.
-Dubuque played a solid first period and one of their best road periods all season in the second. The Fighting Saints tallied four goals in the second period. James Sanchez, Derek Contessa, Matias Maccelli and Jacob Semik all scored for Dubuque. For Semik, it was his first goal of the season. Maccelli's goal was the first shorthanded goal of the season for Dubuque.
-The Stampede used special teams to their advantage in the victory. Dubuque took five penalties in the game. Two came in the third period and one came in overtime. Sioux Falls was 4-5 on the power play and their fifth goal was a shorthanded tally.
-Sioux Falls came in to the contest with the second worst power play in the Western Conference, but they exploded Thursday night. The Stampede and Fighting Saints were also the only two teams in the league to not have shorthanded goals coming in to the game and they both tallied a man down.
-The Fighting Saints are now 3-1-2 in their last six, with the only regulation loss coming against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. The point tonight will certainly come with a bitter taste, but Dubuque still gained positive ground in the standings.
-After a two game suspension, James Sanchez wasted no time pushing his point streak to 10 games. Sanchez scored a power play goal in the first period for the Fighting Saints, his eighth goal of the season. Sanchez now has 23 points for Dubuque.
-Maccelli extended his point streak to 12 games as he notched a goal and an assist for Dubuque. Maccelli's goal was another one for the highlight reel as he spun off a check, settled the puck in the slot and fired short side.
-Ty Jackson notched two points for Dubuque, both secondary assists for the twin. Jackson now has 18 points this season, with nine goals and nine assists.
-Max Crozier was a force for Sioux Falls all night. He jumped up in the rush, was physical on the back end and accounted for two goals and an assist. Crozier was the first start in Thursday's game and his goals came shorthanded and on the power play.
-Alec Calvaruso, in his first action with the Stampede, gained the win with 10 stops in relief. Calvaruso played 29:17 minutes during the game.
