SIOUX CITY,IA - The Musketeers announced the acquisition of Madison Capitols' forward and Alternate Captain Josh Boyer on Monday morning. In exchange for the 6'2" 184lb forward the Musketeers sent defenseman Brady Smith and a 2019 Phase II 7th round pick to the Capitols. Smith was having a modest season in Sioux City, scoring 2 goals and 9 assists for 11 points in 39 games, but had not suited in up in several games for the Musketeers.

Boyer is in his first USHL season and has maintained solid production on a struggling Capitols squad. In 45 games played this season, the University of Nebraska-Omaha commit has 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 total points. Before his time in Madison, Boyer was a point a game player for the Brookings Blizzard of the NAHL, scoring 58 points in 58 games.

Boyer's addition is a move that Head Coach and General Manager Luke Strand hopes will bolster a lineup decimated by injuries and provide some much-needed depth scoring "We are excited to add Josh to our team. His size, experience, and his rugged scoring ability is a very good addition to our forward group."

Despite the solid offensive addition, Smith's departure means the Musketeers' defensive corps gets even thinner. Luckily for the Musketeers, the return of some key pieces on the back side should be soon.

Sioux City will return to action this weekend for two games against the Team USA U-17 squad. Puck drop both nights set for 7:05 pm.
