Everett Silvertips News Release
Everett, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips defeated the Spokane Chiefs 5-1 on Friday night, March 30th. Kyle Beach, Zach Hamill, Peter Mueller, and Jesse Zetariuk all put up multiple points. With the win, the 6,831 fans inside of the Everett Events Center saw Everett retake the playoff series lead 3-2.
The first period began fairly evenly for both sides with shots on goal totals being tied 2-2 at the midway point. However, Everett would slowly begin to take an upper hand and produced a goal to show for it at the 17:51 mark. On the team's second power play of the game, Jason Fransoo sent a pass from the point down to Hamill who was standing in the middle of the left circle. Hamill conducted a one-time pass across the ice to Beach at the top of the crease. Beach also performed a one-timer only his was a shot on goal that Spokane goaltender Dustin Tokarski couldn't save.
In the second period the Silvertips maintained the scoring habit. First, Hamill controlled the puck as the 'Tips were partially set up in the Spokane zone. Hamill dropped the puck back to Zetariuk at the left point who let loose with a shot. Following a deflection off of a body in front of Tokarski, Dan Gendur was at the edge of the crease to pop in the rebound at 5:08. Thirty seconds later, Everett went onto their third power play and it was a mere two seconds after that they scored.
To open the play the face-off was held inside the Chief's right circle. Mueller won the puck forward and Beach bee lined for it; he then swept the puck past Tokarski for the goal at 5:40. Following the two power play goals and the even strength goal, Mueller would tack on a shorthanded one as well. Spokane was proceeding to develop a play inside the Everett zone. Zetariuk though was able to get a stick on the puck and send it into the neutral zone where Mueller collected it. He skated up the right wing before firing his shot from the top of the right circle that beat Tokarski at 7:42.
The Chiefs would then tally a power play goal of their own at 9:38. Derek Ryan was able to get the puck past Silvertips goalie Leland Irving just seconds after a brief 5-on-3 in Spokane's favor had expired. Everett would quickly reestablish their four goal lead when Lukas Vartovnik and Brandon Campos produced the game's final scoring play. Vartovnik carried the puck down the right wing through the neutral zone and into the Chiefs end. As he approached the outside edge of the right circle he ripped a shot toward the net. Campos was crashing in via the slot and converted a successful deflection past Tokarski.
The series will now travel east of the mountains once again to Spokane for game six on Sunday evening, April 1st, inside of the Spokane Arena. The puck is scheduled to drop at 6:00 p.m.
