EVERETT, Wash. - Cole Sanford's first goal with the Regina Pats completed a comeback to sneak past the Everett Silvertips, 4-3 in sudden death overtime at XFINITY Arena in WHL action on Tuesday night.

Despite squandering a 3-1 lead in the third period, the overtime loss pushed the Silvertips lead to five points over Seattle for first place in the U.S. Division. They built a 2-0 lead after one period and were supported by three point games, each from Remi Laurencelle (1g-2a) and Noah Juulsen (three assists). Mario Petit, earning his first career home start, stopped 19 shots and helped neutralize a two-man advantage for Regina in the first period.

Cole MacDonald opened the scoring at 4:06 of the first period on the power play, when he took Juulsen's cross-ice pass at the left circle and beat goaltender Jordan Hollett with a snap shot. Laurencelle bumped the lead to 2-0 at 7:31 on a rebound at the right post, stashed after Carson Stadnyk produced a rebound off Hollett's pads.

Uncharacteristically, the Silvertips (least penalized team in the WHL) surrendered five power play opportunities in the first period and Petit helped keep the lead intact with a pair of key saves and several blocked shots from the penalty kill.

But Jake Leschyshyn's sixth goal of the season put Regina on the board, 11:11 into the second on a power play goal. Stadnyk responded when he finished another Juulsen cross-ice feed to the left circle for his 10th goal with 26 seconds left in the second period for the two-goal lead.

Adam Brooks, who would finish the night with three points and the WHL scoring lead by the end of the game, began Regina's comeback at 9:02 when his deflection at the left circle, set up cross-ice by Sergey Zborovskiy, drew the Pats to within a goal. Brooks then cruised into the Silvertips zone, against three backpedaling defenders, and uncorked a wrister that got past Petit's glove side with 5:36 left in regulation for the tying marker.

The Silvertips responded with three quality chances at the Regina net to nearly pull out the win in regulation and missed again on a Matt Fonteyne snapper that sailed wide in overtime. Sanford's game-winner was set up after a Lucas Skrumeda slashing penalty. With 2.4 seconds left, Sanford took Connor Hobbs' feed at the left circle and roofed a wrister under the crossbar.
