Game Story
The host Silvertips got off to a strong start as the Everett powerplay cashed just 4:06 into the game. Cole MacDonald leaned into a wrist shot and snapped it by Jordan Hollett. Just 3:25 later, Remi Laurencelle jumped onto a Carson Stadnyk rebound, stepped around Hollett's pad and dumped the puck into the Pats goal. The Pats rookie netminder bounced back with a pair of great stops to keep the Pats within striking distance. The Regina powerplay got plenty of work, but despite a bevy of great chances, couldn't capitalize on four man advantages and trailed 2-0 after one.
Regina nearly broke onto the scoreboard when Cole Sanford laid a backdoor feed right to Sam Steel, but the second year forward hammered a shot just wide of the net. The duo combined for another opportunity when Sanford lifted a pass in front of the streaking Steel who picked the puck out of the air, forcing Mario Petit into a great stop. The visitors finally got on the board when Chase Harrison's shot was blocked, but Jake Leschyshyn gathered the rebound and buried a powerplay marker. Before the Pats could get to the break though, Noah Juulsen put a cross-ice feed onto the stick of Carson Stadnyk with 27 seconds left. Hollett lost an edge pushing across and Stadnyk was able to put the puck into an open net to give Everett a 3-1 edge heading to the third.
Despite the strong defensive play of the Silvertips, Adam Brooks checked in and put his stamp on the game. Just over nine minutes into the period, Sergey Zborovskiy spied Brooks open to the side of the Everett net and put the puck right on his tape. Brooks tipped it to the back of the net, cutting the lead to one. With 5:36 left in the period, Brooks struck again by taking the puck from his own blue-line and all the to the left faceoff circle of the Silvertips zone. The shifty forward fought off a check and picked the top corner to tie the game, 3-3. Both teams had chances to take the lead in regulation. Austin Wagner breaking in shorthanded, dragging the puck around a defender before Petit stopped him. A simple looking shot toward Hollett got dangerous in a hurry when it was tipped, but the rookie goaltender snagged the puck with a quick glove stop. The save got the Pats through an Everett powerplay and sent the game to overtime. The Pats almost ended the extra frame early when Wagner and Brooks both had opportunities at the Everett net, but it took until the 4:57.7 mark for the game to end. With the Pats on the powerplay, Adam Brooks set up newly acquired Cole Sanford and the over-age forward buried the puck into the top shelf for the 4-3 Pats win.
