Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals will host the league leading Kelowna Rockets on Friday and Saturday night at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Friday's game is the Royals' second annual Women in Sport Night. Both contests are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
WELCOME HOME: Royals' defenceman Joe Hicketts is back with the team and will play in his first home contest after missing 13 games to play for Team Canada at the 2016 World Junior Championships. Hicketts was named an assistant captain and played in all five contests for Team Canada. The Royals' captain collected three points (1g-2a) and was named one of Canada's top three players of the tournament.
RECORD WATCH: With the game winning goal in Victoria's most recent contest, rookie Matthew Phillips passed former Royal/Bruin Jamie Crooks and Chilliwack alumni Roman Horak (2009-10) for third in franchise history for most goals in a rookie season. Phillips now has 22 goals on the year and sits one marker shy of tying Victoria's rookie goal scoring record set by former Royal Logan Nelson with 23 in 2011-12. The all-time franchise record for goals in a rookie season is held by Oscar Moller who scored 32 goals during the 2006-07 campaign.
