Silvertips Stymied Against Tri-City

EVERETT, WA - The Tri-City Americans broke open a close game with three goals late in the second period to defeat the Everett Silvertips 4-0 Saturday night at Comcast Arena. The 'Tips will now prepare to host the Spokane Chiefs in their fourth game in a five day span Sunday afternoon at 5:05 pm.

Everett was shut out for the first time this season in the contest, getting ten shots on goal in the first period but managing just 12 the rest of the way as they were outshot 38-22 in total. The Silvertips finished 0 for 6 on the powerplay, while Tri-City converted 1 of 4.

Coming off a hard fought game Friday in Portland, the 'Tips played an energetic and evenly-matched first period against the Americans. Tri-City took a 1-0 lead into the locker room after Malte Stromwall created a turnover at the Americans' blueline and sped in on a breakaway, sneaking a quick shot past Kent Simpson's glove to open the scoring.

That score remained through most of the second period before the Americans lit the lamp three times in just under five minutes later in the frame. A powerplay goal by Brendan Shinnimin from the top of the left circle started the outburst and made it 2-0 at 13:54. Shinnimin then assisted on Adam Hughesman's goal during a scramble in front of the net, with Mason Wilgosh adding another score just over a minute after that to make it 4-0 heading into the final 20 minutes.

Austin Lotz came in for Simpson during the third period and stopped all 12 shots he faced to finish the night. Everett had six more third-period shots but couldn't beat Ty Rimmer (19-4-0-0), who completed the 22-save shutout. Kent Simpson (6-19-1-5) took the loss in goal for the Silvertips after making 22 saves through the first two periods of play.

The Silvertips are set to complete a three-in-three weekend and a four-in-five against U.S. Division opponents Sunday afternoon at 5:05 pm against the Spokane Chiefs at Comcast Arena. The 'Tips beat the Chiefs 6-2 the last time the two teams met on December 16 in Everett.
