Everett Silvertips News Release
Seattle, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips were shutout by the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-0 on Friday night, December 28th, at Key Arena in Seattle. Leland Irving came through with a tremendous performance in goal but it wasn't enough to spark the Everett offense. The Silvertips record against the Thunderbirds this season is now 0-3-0-1. They stand at 18-18-0-2 (38 pts.) overall placing them tied for third place in the U.S. Division and tied for fifth place in the Western Conference.
Seattle put up their first point on a Lindsay Nielsen goal at the 5:31 mark of the first period. The Silvertips went on to outshoot their opponent during the opening 20-minutes, but couldn't breakthrough onto the scoreboard. At the other end, Irving played strong holding the home team to just the one goal.
However, in the second period Seattle took control. Jim O'Brien scored just 1:06 in and Prab Rai later made it a three goal deficit against Everett at 13:01. Irving though continued to stand tall in net and helped his team kill off three consecutive Thunderbird power plays to finish off the second and into the early moments of the third.
The Silvertips thwarted three more power plays during the final period, but couldn't get anything going offensively. Their eight successful penalty kills matches their previous season high done three times before. The second instance of that trio also occurred against Seattle.
The Silvertips will play their first home game of the regular season's second half tomorrow night. The Moose Jaw Warriors will be making their bi-annual visit to Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center for a scheduled 7:05 p.m. start. The team will remain at home for a game on New Year's Eve against the Kamloops Blazers. A special start time is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
