Everett Silvertips News Release
Kennewick, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips surrendered three third period goals in a 5-2 loss to the Tri-City Americans in their Western Hockey League game on Thursday night, December 27th, at Toyota Center in Kennewick. Lukas Vartovnik and Jesse Burt scored for Everett who are 3-3 this season against Tri-City. They now have an overall record of 18-17-0-2 with 38 points in the standings; they're third place in the U.S. Division and tied for fifth place in the Western Conference.
The Americans initiated scoring midway through the opening period, but the Silvertips quickly responded. First, Jason Reese wristed a shot past Everett goaltender Leland Irving at 10:38. Then, just 42-seconds later, Vartovnik scored his fifth goal of the season. A Chris de la Lande shot from the point hit the post but Vartovnik was able to finish the job at 11:20.
Reese struck again early in the second period. At the 2:20 mark he was in the right place at the right time. A Tri-City dump-in along the right wing boards took an odd bounce that sprung Reese on a breakaway up the slot. His wrist shot put the home team in the lead 2-1 heading into the final 20-minutes.
The Americans would then score a trio of goals in a span of just over seven minutes. Colton Yellow Horn, Shaun Vey, and Jarett Toll all scored at 7:16, 13:06, and 14:34, respectively; the latter two coming on consecutive power plays. It was the Silvertips though that completed the goal scoring for the night when Jesse Burt earned his third of the season at the 18:09 mark.
The Silvertips complete their three-in-three stretch to open the regular season's second half with a game tomorrow night in Seattle at 7:35 p.m. at Key Arena, and then on Saturday night on home ice. The Moose Jaw Warriors will be making their only visit of the season to Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center for a scheduled 7:05 p.m. start time.
