Everett Silvertips News Release
Kennewick, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips came up short against the Tri-City Americans 3-1 in their Western Hockey League game on Friday night, December 14th, at Toyota Center in Kennewick. Goaltender Leland Irving stopped 30 shots and Jonathan Harty scored to help Everett's chances. The Silvertips are now 3-2 this season against Tri-City and have an overall record of 16-16-0-2 with 34 points in the standings; they're tied with Seattle for third in the U.S. Division.
The Americans were first to score when Jason Reese put in a rebound left by Irving at the 6:05 mark of the first period. Throughout the balance of the first 20-minutes and first half of the second period, Everett was kept in the game by several huge Irving saves. The best of which came on an attempted re-direct at the top of the crease. His team would repay him with a goal of their own just past the game's midway point.
On a power play rush, Kyle Beach left a drop pass for defenseman and team captain Harty who gathered the puck at the top of the circles. Harty took another couple of strides up the slot before wristing his shot past Tri-City goaltender Chet Pickard at 12:21. For the Silvertips, the power play goal was the team's first such accomplishment in their past 27 man advantage situations.
However, the visitors were unable to complete a successful comeback attempt in the third period despite solid scoring chances and the continued strong goaltending of Irving. Drew Hoff scored the game winner for the Americans at 17:01 and Colton Yellow Horn solidified the victory with an empty net, shorthanded goal at 19:27.
The Silvertips have just two more games remaining this weekend before the league moves into its traditional holiday break. Both games will play out against the Portland Winter Hawks with tomorrow night's being a home contest at Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center; puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Things then wrap up on Sunday at Memorial Coliseum in Portland with a 5:00 p.m. start time.
