Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- Friday night is Teddy Bear Toss Night at Westman Communications Group Place when the Brandon Wheat Kings play host to the visiting Saskatoon Blades.

Winners of thirteen of their last 17 games, the Wheat Kings will be hoping to get back on the winning track Friday night as they play their final pre-Christmas home game.

The Wheat Kings, who bring the curtain down on the first half of their 20007-08 regular season Saturday night in Prince Albert, had two impressive streaks come to an end on Wednesday when they dropped a 5-4 decision to the visiting Kelowna Rockets. Not only did it put the brakes to a 7-game winning streak, it snapped Brandon's 8-gamer on home ice.

Fans attending Friday's game are encouraged to bring a stuffed toy and when the Wheat Kings score their first goal, they can litter the ice. All stuffed toys collected will be donated to the local Christmas Cheer Registry. This year's Teddy Bear Toss is a presentation of Shoppers Mall, 94.7 Star FM and 880 CKLQ.

Entering weekend play, the Wheat Kings find themselves sitting in second place in the Eastern Division and fourth in the Conference with a 21-10-0-1 record. Brandon is currently one point behind the Eastern Division leading Regina Pats, with four games in hand. Regina kicks off a weekend home and home series with Moose Jaw on Friday.

Two of Brandon's impressive rookies take 7-game point scoring streaks into Friday night's game. Both 18-year old Matt Calvert and 16-year old Brayden Schenn have collected at least a point in seven consecutive games. During that span, Schenn, who currently leads all WHL rookies in scoring with 32 points, is 7-6-13 while Calvert, who is fifth among first year players with 17 assists, is 3-6-9 in his last seven starts. The third member of Brandon's All-Rookie line - Scott Glennie - has three goals and 7 points in his last five games.

Tickets to Friday night's game are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca. Friday's game will be the second to last home game of the calendar year for the Wheat Kings, who will bring the curtain up on the second half of their regular season schedule on Thursday, December 27th against Regina.
