Everett Silvertips News Release
Everett, WA - The Silvertips won their sixth straight home game in a shootout Tuesday night defeating Tri-City, 7 -6. Everett now improves their record to 7-6-1 with 15 points in 14 games, moving within six points of second place Tri-City. Kent Simpson got his third win of the season after coming into the game in the second period for a relieved Shayne Barrie, who's bobble head was given away to the first 1,000 fans tonight. American's Goaltender Chet Pickard, who shutout Everett four days ago, gave up seven goals including the shootout for the loss.
The Silvertips jumped on the board early tonight scoring two minutes and 37 seconds into the game. Everett Forward Ryan White scored his second goal of the season after some beautiful cycling of the puck in the Americans zone. White was fed a pass at the top of the hash marks after a tape to tape pass from Paul Van de Velde, making the score 1-0 early on.
A flood of scoring soon followed as Tri-City evened the score up on their first power play of the night. Americans Defenseman Tyler Schmidt fired a wrist shot from the point that deflected off an Everett Defenseman and past Goaltender Shayne Barrie. The 'Tips pressure came right back after more great puck control in the Tri-City zone. Kellan Tochkin put home his sixth of the year at 10:56 after a rebound came right to his stick from a missed shot making the score 2-1. Everett wasn't done yet. A centering pass from Kellan Tochkin to Byron Froese in front of the net led to an easy tap in past Americans Goaltender Chet Pickard at 13:24 pushing Everett up 3-1.
Soon after American Forward Adam Hughesman recovered a mishandled puck in front of the Everett net and beat Shayne Barrie to make the score 3-2. At 18:55 Shane Harper received a great pass from Daniel Bartek in front of the net and dove back door to make the score 4-2. Tri-City would not stay down though as 24 seconds later Jason Reese put home his 10th of the year making the score 4-3 to end the 1st period.
After giving up three goals on 10 shots Shayne Barrie was pulled and Kent Simpson was put in to start the 2nd period. Everett, continuing where they left off in the first, scored their second power play goal of the night when Graham Pouter beat Pickard five hole making the score 5-3 at 1:34 of the 2nd period. Tri-City, also continuing where they left off in the first, scored just 23 seconds later on a two on one beating Simpson high glove and pulling within one goal. Tri-City tied the game at the end of their power play as Taylor Procyshen went top shelf, glove side past Simpson at 12:32 of the 2nd.
Tri-City took its first lead of the night at 14:59 of the 3rd period. After a scrum in front of Kent Simpson, American Center Brendan Shinnimin fought the puck home to put Tri-City up 6-5. Down, but not out the Everett Silvertips fought back for their third power play goal of the night by Daniel Bartek. The goal scored at 17:40 of the 3rd tied the game 6-6 and sent the game into overtime. Kent Simpson made some huge saves for Everett in Overtime giving his team a chance in a Shootout.
This was Everett's second Shootout this year, the first being a 4-3 road win against Vancouver on October 15th. After going through both teams first three shooters both Simpson and Pickard all stopped all the shots faced. Kellan Tochkin was Everett's fourth shooter and put home the go ahead goal until Kent Simpson made a spectacular split legged save on the American's fourth shooter Taylor Procyshen, making Tochkin's goal the game winner.
