
Blades Knock Off Top Team in Eastern Conference

Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades defeated the top team in the Eastern Conference on Wednesday night as they dumped the Calgary Hitmen by a final score of 3-2.
The Blades received goals from Stefan Elliott, Jyri Niemi (PP), and Chris Langkow. Langkow, along with Adam Chorneyko, were each a team best +2 on the night.
Brett Sonne and Kyle Bortis were the only Hitmen that could solve goaltender Braden Holtby on the night, both of which came in the 3rd period. Holtby would go on to make 22 saves on 24 shots, picking up his 10th win of the season. Martin Jones took the loss in goal for the Hitmen by allowing 3 goals against on 32 Saskatoon shots.
The Blades power play was 1 for 7 on the night while their penalty kill was 3 for 4.
Stefan Elliott was named the games 1st star while Braden Holtby picked up 3rd star honours. Elliott, with his goal tonight, is now tied for the Western Hockey League lead with 7 goals as a defenseman.
The Blades will now try to continue their winning ways on Saturday night when they host one of their biggest rivals, the Regina Pats. The two teams, who combined for over 800 penalty minutes last season, will play for just the 2nd of 8 times this season.
