Chico Outlaws News Release

RENO, NV - Reno pounded out 13 hits and smashed five home runs - three of those round-trippers powering a seven run 7th inning - to help the Silver Sox rally late and hand the Chico Outlaws a 13-9 defeat in the opener of a three game series at Peccole Park on the University of Nevada Reno campus.

For the first six-and-a-half innings, it looked as though it was going to be the Outlaws night - Chico got on the scoreboard in the 1st inning when Steve Boggs scored on a two-out single by Jose Valdez...then in the 2nd Eric Pringle provided the two-out heroics with a line single to right that plated Matt Ceriani and gave the Outlaws a 2-0 lead. Juan Senreiso led off Reno's half of the 2nd with a solo homer off Chico starter Berek Fasking...but in the 3rd the Outlaws went up 4-1 when Valdez scored on a wild pitch by Silver Sox starter Daniel Chaffardet; later in the inning Julian Benavidez came home when shortstop Andre Alvarado, trying to nail Benavidez at third, sailed his throw into the Chico dugout. Senreiso doubled to lead off the Silver Sox 4th and would score two batters later on a Carlos Madrid sacrifice fly...but in the 5th Casey Garrison connected for his nine homer of the year; the solo shot making the score 5-2.

It stayed that way until the fateful 7th - Reno put two men aboard with one out when the replaced Fasking with lefty reliever Jason Roach. He promptly hit Gary Harris with a pitch to load the bases...then Ryan Brown sent a long drive to right field that landed just inside the foul pole - the grand slam putting the Silver Sox ahead 6-5. John Hattig then connected for a solo home run; Senreiso followed with a double...then Ross McCoy dialed long distance, sending a Roach pitch over the 30-foot wall in dead center field to cap off the seven-run rally and give Reno a 9-5 lead. Julian Benavidez led off the Outlaws 8th with a solo homer off Silver Sox reliever Kevin Piccirillo...but Reno answered with four more runs off Roach in the bottom of the 8th, highlighted by an RBI triple by Brown and Senreiso's second homer of the night; this one with a man aboard to make it 13-6. Chico scored three runs off right-hander Billy Simon in the 9th, but it was far too little and far too late, as Simon got Tony Torcato to ground out to end the game and give the Silver Sox the come-from-behind victory.

Piccirillo (1-0) worked four-and-a-third innings of relief to earn the win for Reno; Roach (0-8) allowed nine earned runs in just an inning-and-two-thirds to shoulder the loss. Senreiso finished the night 4-for-5 with three RBI and 12 total bases, while Brown posted a five RBI game and Hattig chipped in with three hits...Chico had 10 hits in the losing effort, with Boggs, Valdez, Benavidez and Lino Garcia all getting two safeties apiece. Friday's loss drops the Outlaws to 9-15 in the season's second half and 24-42 overall; Reno improved to 8-14 in the second half and 26-40 for the year. The Outlaws and Silver Sox meet for the final time Saturday night in doubleheader action, with Scott Navarro (2-3) and Eric Sheridan (2-1 with Chico, 3-3 overall) on the mound for Chico...Reno will counter with righties Derrick Landavazo (2-1) and Steve Russell (5-8). The first game starts at 5:00pm; hear all the action with Rory Miller calling the play-by-play on ESPN Radio 101.7 FM and AM 1340; the game can also be heard on-line at www.ChicoOutlawsBaseball.com.
