Silver Hawks Shortstop, Andrew Velazquez, Sets New Minor League Record

South Bend, Indiana (July 13, 2014)- Silver Hawks shortstop Andrew Velazquez has broken the Minor League consecutive on-base record. The on-base record of 71 straight games was held by Kevin Millar (1997) and Kevin Youkilis (2003). With today's single versus the Ft. Wayne TinCaps, Velazquez has set a new on-base record by reaching base safely in 72 straight games.

Velazquez's on-base streak began on April 22, when he tripled and walked against the Dayton Dragons. Velazquez is currently batting .311 with an .860 OPS. Velazquez also leads the Midwest League with 170 total bases and 13 triples while ranking second with 40 stolen bases. The Major League on-base record is 84 straight games and is held the Boston Red Sox great Ted Williams, set in 1949.

The South Bend Silver Hawks are a Class A minor league team affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The team is owned and operated by Swing-Batter-Swing, LLC whose sole shareholder is Andrew T. Berlin of Chicago, IL.
