July 13, 2014 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill.- Jeimer Candelario made it an exciting finish as Fifth Third Bank Ballpark, as he capped off a double-header sweep with a walk-off home run. The Cougars (17-6, 62-31) guaranteed another series win at home with two wins, 3-1 & 6-5 over the Beloit Snappers (6-17, 36-57).
Looking to avoid extra innings, the Cougars needed one run to finish off the twin bill sweep. After a four-run lead was wasted, Candelario came up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with nobody on and one-out. On an 0-1 count Candelario sent a game-ending solo shot on top of the right field patio deck for his second home run of the day.
Game one featured a dominant performance from Cougar start Jen-Ho Tseng (4-0). The Cougar right-hander allowed just one run on three hits through a season-high seven innings. The Cougars used offense from Kevin Brown and Cael Brockmeyer, who had RBI hits in the fourth frame for a three-run lead. The Snappers got their lone run off of Tseng with a Matt Chapman solo blast in the last inning.
Hunter Adkins (0-3) suffered the loss.
Game two featured more offense as the Cougars were able to jump out to a 5-1 lead. After Kyle Schwarber tied the game with an RBI single, Carlos Penalver gave the Cougars the lead with a run-scoring triple. Candelario pushed the Cougars ahead even further with his first home run, a three-run blast in the fifth.
Beloit came back into the ballgame with a three-spot of their own in the sixth and a game tying run in the seventh.
Michael Heesch (2-0) picked up the win after blowing the save. Tyler Vail (3-3) suffered the loss.
The Cougars and Snappers will wrap up this five-game series on Monday with Daury Torrez (9-4, 3.02) on the mound against Lou Trivino (4-8, 5.91). First pitch from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or log onto kccougars.com.
