
Captains Win Fifth Game in a Row with 9-7 Victory

(Eastlake, OH)- Lake County knocked out a season high 18 hits and went on to beat Great Lakes by a final of 9-7 on Sunday Night. The Captains scored in three different innings and have now clinched the four game series against the Loons. The Captains have won a season high five straight games.
Lake County scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Captains batted around and used six hits in the frame. The big blow was a two-run homer by Paul Hendrix. For Hendrix, it was his ninth of the season. The four other RBI's in the inning went to Jorge Martinez, Brian Ruiz and two for Clint Frazier. The score was 6-0 Captains after two innings.
In the top of the third inning, Spencer Navin walked and then was singled to third. Another base hit by Alex Santana scored Navin and it was 6-1. In the fourth, the Loons got another run. Josmar Cordero was hit-by-a- pitch and scored on a RBI double from Webster Rivas and the score was 6-2 Lake County.
The Captains added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Brian Ruiz lined his first homerun as a professional over the right field wall and the score was 7-2. Claudio Bautista singled and eventually came around to score on a base hit from Paul Hendrix and the score was 8-2 Captains.
Great Lakes scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to cut into the Captains lead. Alex Santana knocked in two with a double to left field and the score was 8-5. Santana came into score on en error and the score was 8-5 after five innings.
The Loons scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to trim the lead to one run. With the bases loaded and nobody out Joey Curletta singled home a run and so did Paul Hoenecke. The score was 8-7 at the stretch. The Captains got a run back in the bottom of the seventh when Dorssys Paulino hit a sacrifice fly to center field and the score was 9-7 Captains.
RHP Mitch Brown (2-7) started the game for the Captains and did not get a decision. Brown pitched four and one third innings and allowed five hits, five earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts. Alexis Paredes(3-1) pitched one and two thirds innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits one walk and two strikeouts to earn the win. Carlos Melo pitched two scoreless innings and allowed just one hit and one walk. Trevor Frank earned his ninth save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
RHP Brandon Martinez (1-4) started for Great Lakes and took the loss. Martinez pitched four innings and allowed 13 hits, eight earned runs, he allowed two homeruns and fanned two. The Loons bullpen allowed one earned run on five hits in four and two thirds innings of relief.
The Captains will continue a seven game home stand on Monday night. The Captains will send RHP Jordan Milbrath (2-9, 3.51) to the mound for the start. The Great Lakes Loons will be in town and will start RHP Scott Barlow (3-3, 3.75). First pitch is at 7:00 PM from Classic Park in Eastlake.
