Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - Rainis Silva, Keegan McGovern, and Onil Pena each homered for the Clinton LumberKings in a lopsided 10-3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Monday night at Ashford University Field. Ray Kerr was dominant for the LumberKings (21-23, 60-54) on the mound over his six-shutout innings of work.
Kerr (4-10) earned his fourth win of the season for Clinton with six strong innings of work. He walked two batters while striking out eight and held the Timber Rattlers (21-23, 52-61) to just two hits, both infield singles by Eddie Silva.
Clinton backed Kerr with plenty of offense. In the top of the first, Billy Cooke opened the night at the plate with a single to center against Wisconsin starter Bowden Francis. Three pitches later Joseph Rosa tapped a ball back to the pitcher that Francis (5-8) then threw wildly over the first basemen's head allowing Cooke to score all the way from first. When the dust had settled, Rosa was at third and driven home three batters later on an RBI single by Dimas Ojeda.
The LumberKings broke out for this largest rally of the night in the bottom of the second inning. A walk, single, and two Timber Rattlers errors set the table for a McGovern two run double to left center field and Eugene Helder RBI single up the middle.
Francis was given the loss for his three innings of work but was let down by his defense. He allowed six runs, none earned, on five hits while walking one and striking out five.
In the bottom of the fifth, Silva hit the first of three LumberKings home runs. His two-run shot to left was his first of the year and his first in the Seattle Mariners organization following his trade from the Minnesota Twins.
McGovern drove in his third run of the night, himself, in the bottom of the sixth with his eighth home run of the year to the opposite field in left.
Onil Pena capped the scoring for the LumberKings in the bottom of the seventh. A solo home run with one out in the inning was his second big fly of the year, both against Timber Rattlers pitching.
Wisconsin avoided the shutout in the eighth with a three-run rally. Two out hits by Tristen Lutz and KJ Harrison were the only runs managed by Wisconsin in a lopsided LumberKings series that split the series at two games apiece.
The LumberKings will take tomorrow off before continuing the home stand with a three-game series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels starting on Wednesday night. Clinton will throw right-hander Scott Boches (2-4, 3.30) while the Kernels will tap lefty Tyler Watson (4-5 4.76). First pitch is slated for 6:30 PM. Fans looking to listen to the game can hear Erik Oas on the call on 100.3 FM WCCI and online at lumberkings.com via the tunein radio ap at 6:15 PM with the pregame show.
Wednesday will be "Retro Beer Night" at Ashford University Filed. Fans 21 years and older can enjoy Hamm's, PBR, and Miller High Life out of the first base concession stand at the retro price of just $2.
