Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk-off with a 3-2 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits at Dozer Park on Monday night. Each of three games in the series was decided by one run with the Chiefs winning two of them.
The River Bandits used a pair of solo home runs to jump in front early. Colton Shaver, in his first game batting at the top of the order, drove the second pitch of the game from Alvaro Seijas out of the park to left field for his 12th home run of the season. In the second inning, Scott Schreiber turned on a fastball for a home run of his own. His second long ball of the season put the Bandits on top 2-0.
Peoria cut their deficit in half with a run in the fifth inning, Edgardo Sandoval's final frame on the hill. Bryce Denton led off the inning with a single into right field and moved to second on a groundout from JR Davis. He raced home on another single from Brandon Benson to close the gap to 2-1.
The Bandits carried the one run lead into the bottom of the ninth. Jairo Solis allowed back-to-back singles to Zach Kirtley and Julio Rodriguez to open the inning before striking out Denton for the first out. Davis tied the game with a single up the middle that scored Kirtley from second. After the first pitch to the next hitter, Benson, Solis left with athletic trainer Elliot Diehl. Brendan Feldmann replaced him and got a bouncer back to the mound which resulted in the lead runner being out at third. Rayder Ascanio followed with a hard groundball that bounced off of Schreiber and into right field to drive in the winning run.
Peoria outhit the Bandits 11-7. Nick Plummer, Davis and Benson each finished with two hits.
Sandoval ended up tossing 5.0 shutout innings in his first start of the season. He allowed one run on five hits and struck out a pair. Solis took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in 3.1 innings.
The River Bandits (23-20, 63-50) will take Tuesday off before continuing the road trip in Beloit on Wednesday at Pohlman Field. The Bandits and Snappers (26-16, 58-53) will resume a suspended game from July 3 at 6:00 p.m. with a full nine inning contest to follow.
All River Bandits games are broadcast on 1170 K-BOB and TuneIn Radio. Home games are also available with video on MiLB.TV.
