
Jhoan Duran and Ryan Jeffers named MWL Pitcher and Player of the Week as Kernels sweep MWL weekly honors

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Midwest League and MiLB.com announced today that Kernels pitcher Jhoan Durán and catcher Ryan Jeffers have been named the Midwest League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the period ending August 6th.
Durán made two starts last week, posting a 1-0 record and not allowing an earned run in 13.1 innings pitch. He scattered five hits and struck out 17 while walking just three. He was acquired by the Twins in a trade with the Diamondbacks on July 27th as one of three minor league prospects for Eduardo Escobar.
Jeffers hit .538 (14-26) in seven games last week, with 3 HR and 8 RBI. He also added six doubles, drew four walks and posted a 1.115 OBPS. He was selected by the Twins in the second round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of UNC Wilmington.
Durán and Jeffers join Jose Miranda, Jordan Balazovic and Alex Kirilloff as the five Kernels to earn MWL weekly honors this season.
The Kernels have a day off on Tuesday and then start a five-game road trip on Wednesday, August 8th with games at Clinton and Quad Cities. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium to host Quad Cities at 6:35 PM with the gates opening at 5:30 PM.
