Metairie, LA âChris Capuano pitched eight innings allowing two runs while striking out six to lead the Tucson Sidewinders (63-61) to a 5 to 4victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs (63-60) on Tuesday Night at Zephyr Field.
The Sidewinders scored two runs in the top of the first off Zephyrs starter D.J. Houlton as Danny Ramirez and Lyle Overbay scored on a double from Tucson catcher Brad Cresse. New Orleans scored a run in the second as Mike Moriarty scored on a ground out from Houlton.
Doug DeVore scored an insurance run in the ninth for Tucson as they took a 5 to 2 lead. The Z's rallied in the ninth with two runs as Raul Chavez had a sacrifice fly and Alan Zinter had a pinch hit RBI single. But Dennys Reyes retired Henri Stanley to end the game with the tying run on first base.
Capuano (8-3) picked up the win pitching eight innings allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out six while walking none. Houlton (2-1) suffered the loss pitching six innings allowing four runs while striking out ten. Reyes retired the final two batters of the game to pick up his second save of the season.
The series with the Sidewinders continues on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. Pete Munro is scheduled to start for the Zephyrs and John Patterson for the Sidewinders. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs and Ron Swoboda calling the action.
