Sidewinders Drop Series Finale To Fresno

Tucson, Ariz. - The Tucson Sidewinders dropped the series finale to the Fresno Grizzlies 7-6 Monday night at Tucson Electric Park.

Fresno hit three solo home runs in the top of the fourth inning off starting pitcher Casey Daigle. Nate Schierholtz lead off the inning with his solo home run. Daigle retired McClain on a pop-up to second base. Fred Lewis and Tomas De La Rosa hit back-to-back home runs to give the Grizzlies a 3-1 lead.

The Grizzlies put up three more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Schierholtz lead the scoring again with a single to start the inning. McClain followed with a single of his own and the runners advanced on a strikeout wild pitch. De La Rosa hit a double to left field that scored the base runners. Daigle struck out Justin Leone to record the second out of the inning. Todd Jennings singled to bring in De La Rosa to give Fresno a 6-1 lead.

Matt Erickson extended his hitting streak to a career high 17 games with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jarred Ball and Alberto Callaspo followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to bring the score to 6-3 after six innings.

Fresno added to their lead in the top of the seventh with a leadoff single by Brian Horwitz. Then two batters later Nate Schierholtz knocked him in with a double to make it 7-3.

The Sidewinders came right back in the bottom of the seventh inning with an RBI double by Chris Carter that scored Rich Thompson. Two batters later Jeff Salazar knocked in Carter with a single to make the score 7-5.

In the bottom of the ninth, Rich Thompson leadoff the inning with a double. Thompson moved to third on a Carter fly ball. Mike D'Antona followed with an RBI groundout to make it 7-6, but it would be the last run the Sidewinders would score.
