Dallas Sidekicks News Release
Allen, TX - The Dallas Sidekicks lost on the road against the Mesquite Outlaws 7-1. The Sidekicks next game will be at home against the Tacoma Stars on January 5th, 2020 at 3.00 PM CT in Allen, TX at the Allen Event Center.
The Sidekicks started the first quarter with veteran goalkeeper Juan Gamboa in goal and the Outlaws put in their goalkeeper Eduardo "Pollo" Cortes. Gamboa saved a goal early in the first quarter from Outlaws forward VcMor Eligwe. Both sides started play in an aggressive manner, neither wanting to lose to their local rival. With a little more than five minutes into the quarter the Outlaws racked up two fouls back-to-back while the Sidekicks didn't have any. At 7:04 Sidekicks forward Luiz "Lipe" Andrade sent a rocket toward the goal, but it was blocked by Outlaws defender Clark Binning to keep the game 0-0. Sidekicks defender Josh Hernandez was given a blue card for holding and the Outlaws went on the power play for two minutes. A volley of shots rained down on Gamboa, but he saved them all and threw the ball into the Outlaws territory. However, the man down proved too much for the Sidekicks and former Sidekicks player and current Outlaw Shaun David scored with less than four minutes left in the first quarter to bring the Outlaws in the lead 1-0. The quarter ended with eight shots on goal for the Outlaws and four shots on goal for the Sidekicks.
The second quarter began with the Outlaws Josemaria Oteze being called for a foul against Sidekicks defender Jonathan Segura. Then Mesquite got called for a yellow card for embellishment by Eligwe who was sent to the penalty box for five minutes. The Outlaws, however, took advantage of a Sidekicks defender being out of position and Outlaws forward Jamie Lovegrove sent one past Gamboa and brought Mesquite's lead up 2-0 one minute into the quarter. After some back and forth, the Outlaws Anthony Powell made it a 3-0 lead in Mesquite's favor. Gamboa, however, continued to make saves throughout the quarter even with multiple volleys being fired at him with seconds in between and he showed why he is sixth in the league in saves. In the first half, the Outlaws outshot the Sidekicks 17-5.
The Sidekicks started the third quarter looking to put some points on the board against their new local rivals, but 1:31 into the second half the Outlaws score one on a pass from Oteze to Powell and the Outlaws increased their lead 4-0. Sidekicks RJ Luevano was called for a foul which gave the Outlaws the opportunity to score and they capitalized on the set piece when forward Jamie Lovegrove put one into the net to increase the Outlaws lead 5-0 halfway through the quarter. With less than two minutes left in the quarter, Luevano was given a blue card for a reckless tackle and the Outlaws got a two-minute power play but weren't able to put one into the net before the quarter ended.
The fourth quarter began with the Sidekicks down to the Outlaws 0-5. The Sidekicks pulled Gamboa and put in their sixth attacker Ricardinho Cavalcante to try to get a tactical advantage, but it wouldn't work. The Outlaws Jamie Lovegrove got an empty net goal, his third goal of the game, and increased their lead against the Sidekicks 6-0 halfway through the last quarter. The Sidekicks got on the board with less than four minutes left in the game when midfielder Gustavo Piedra put one past Pollo and decreased the Outlaws lead by one to make it 6-1 Outlaws. The Sidekicks were then called for too many men on the field and given a blue card and the Outlaws were given a two-minute power play. The Sidekicks successfully killed the power play, but Outlaws Eligwe scored at even strength to increase their lead 7-1 with less than a minute remaining. The Sidekicks have yet to win against their local rivals and the game ended with the Outlaws walking away with another victory against the Sidekicks.
