Sibrian Hits Grand Slam in the 9th as Mudcats Roll in an 11-2 Win

Columbia, S.C. - Jose Sibrian hit two home runs including a grand slam in the ninth, Kay-Lan Nicasia and Jadher Areinamo drove in two runs each, and Jesus Rivero pitched four hitless innings as the Mudcats win the third game of the series 11-2.
The Mudcats (16-10, 49-40) took the lead in the second with a Jadher Areinamo sacrifice fly that put the first run on the board. Carolina added to that lead in the second with an Areinamo single that doubled the lead for the Mudcats. Columbia would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run home run.
Carolina took the lead back with a Luke Adams single in the top of the fifth. The Mudcats then extended the lead in the sixth with a three-run inning. Jesus Parra doubled to start the scoring bringing in one run. Kay-Lan Nicasia brought in both of his RBIs with a single putting Carolina up by three.
Jose Sibrian had a night to remember with five RBIs, four hits, and two home runs. Sibrian hit the first of his two home runs in the seventh with a solo shot to left center giving the Mudcats a five-run lead. Sibrian delivered the knockout punch in the ninth with a grand slam putting Carolina up 11-2.
Patricio Aquino (W, 4-3) started on the mound and went five innings while picking up the win. Aquino pitched three scoreless innings before giving up a fourth-inning home run for Columbia's only runs of the night. Aquino gave up six hits while also walking three while adding two strikeouts on the night. Jesus Rivero (S, 3) pitched four hitless innings while picking up his third save on the season. Rivero hit one batter with a pitch, walked another, and struck out seven including three of the four batters he faced in the ninth to close out the game.
After tonight's game, Carolina is ahead in the series against Columbia 3-0. The series continues Friday night at Segra Park with Will Rudy on the mound for the Mudcats.
