New Jersey Cardinals News Release
The St. Louis Cardinals organization has made several changes to the New Jersey Cardinals roster in the last week. Pitchers Scott Schweitzer and Jason John were sent to Peoria (Class A Midwest League) and Johnson City (Rookie Appalachian League) respectively. The organization also promoted pitcher Adam Acosta from Johnson City to New Jersey.
Schweitzer will begin his 2nd stint with Peoria, after spending the 2003 season with the Chiefs. This season, Scott appeared in 9 games for the New Jersey Cardinals posting a 1-0 record, a 4.26 ERA, and 9 strikeouts in 6.1 IP. Jason John went 1-2 in 9 appearances for the New Jersey Cardinals this season. The Cardinals are adding Acosta who has made 9 appearances for Johnson City in his first professional season, striking out 19 batters in 17.1 IP. A Miami native, Acosta attended Elon University in North Carolina. At Elon, Acosta posted a 2-4 record with a 4.85 ERA. His opponents hit just .236 against him during the 2004 season.
The Cardinals are finishing up a 7 day road trip with a 3 game series against Mahoning Valley beginning today. The team will return to action at Skylands Park on Sunday August 1st, against the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees). On Sunday, Newton Memorial Hospital and the New Jersey Herald will be sponsoring the Bat Day giveaway at the stadium. The club will then travel to Staten Island on Monday before returning home Tuesday to finish their series against the Yankees. On Tuesday, there will be a post-game party at the Hampton House Bar & Grill with Cardinals players, coaches, and staff.
