Biloxi Shuckers News Release
MOBILE, AL - The Biloxi Shuckers (60-39, 19-10 2nd Half) used extra innings to top the Mobile BayBears (40-57, 13-16 2nd Half) 8-5 on Sunday and sweep the final regular-season series at Hank Aaron Stadium. The win marks the ninth straight for Biloxi to sets a new franchise-high winning streak.
For the third time in the series, Mobile captured an early lead in the first inning. Brandon Marsh reached on a single against Bowden Francis and Jack Kruger doubled him home for a 1-0 lead. Brendon Sanger then scored Kruger with a sacrifice fly to give Mobile a 2-0 advantage.
Cooper Hummel tied the game in the second with a two-run home run before the BayBears jumped back in front in the fourth. With two outs and Sanger aboard, Connor Justus clubbed a two-run home run to left field to make it a 4-2 game. Biloxi quickly rebounded against Jeremy Beasley in the fifth with another two-run frame. Hummel walked and scored on a wild pitch while Weston Wilson singled and was brought home on a Skyler Ewing double.
The Shuckers took their first lead of the game in the seventh inning facing Luis Pena. Hummel and Wilson led off with singles and Joantgel Segovia sacrificed Hummel home with a fly to right for a 5-4 lead. Daniel Brown (H, 8) surrendered a leadoff double to Erick Salcedo to begin the eighth and departed the game after getting Sanger to lineout. Nate Griep (W, 5-1) entered with a man on third and allowed a sacrifice fly to Justus that knotted the game back up at 5-5.
In extras, Dillon Thomas drove home Segovia for the go-ahead run on his third hit of the game, while Hummel drew a bases-loaded walk and Wilson made it an 8-5 lead with an RBI single off Dario Beltre (L, 1-3). Griep returned to the mound in the Mobile tenth, worked a double play and got Sanger to lineout to right field and end the game.
