PENSACOLA, FL - The Biloxi Shuckers (53-49, 19-14) used a late fury to get it close, but the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (61-40, 20-13) used six early runs to defeat the Shuckers, 11-6, at Blue Wahoos Stadium on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Shuckers drop into second place in the South Division heading into the final six weeks of the season.

Early on, it was all Jacob Berry for the Blue Wahoos. He smashed a two-run homer in the first and doubled Pensacola's lead in the second with a two-RBI triple, giving them a 4-0 lead. Wes Clarke, however, got the Shuckers back in it with a two-run blast to left, his fifth home run of the week and his team-leading 18th of the year. In the bottom of the inning, José Devers cashed in with a two-run single to right with the bases loaded, giving Pensacola a 6-2 lead.

The teams traded zeros on the scoreboard, with Pensacola starter Collin Lowe, making his Double-A debut, working through five innings on just 54 pitches.

In the seventh, the Shuckers got bases-loaded walks from Wes Clarke and Zavier Warren, making it 6-4, but a wild pitch and RBI single from Victor Mesa Jr. in the bottom half quickly extended the lead back to four.

In the eighth, an RBI single from Jackson Chourio brought in Felix Valerio, but Pensacola responded with three runs off an error and a two-run homer from Will Banfield, his 15th of the year.

The Shuckers loaded the bases in the ninth and cashed in on a wild pitch, but Blue Wahoos closer Jefry Yan closed out the game with three strikeouts. Biloxi stranded the bases loaded three times over the final four innings and stranded 13 in the game. Lowe (1-0) earned the win while Shuckers' starter James Meeker (6-4) took the loss.

After an off day on Monday, the Shuckers will face the Tennessee Smokies at MGM Park for a six-game set starting on Tuesday.
