Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (46-55, 13-20) lost 7-1 to the Montgomery Biscuits (53-49, 17-16), dropping the series finale and the series with it on Sunday afternoon at Trustmark Park.

The game wrapped up a 13-game homestand for the M-Braves, their longest of the season. The Biscuits took the series four-games-to-three. The M-Braves dropped their fifth straight series.

The M-Braves scored the first run of the game on an RBI single from Drew Lugbauer in the first inning. Lugbauer capped off an incredible series where he went 9-for-24 with five home runs and eight RBI. The first baseman recorded the first ever three-homer game in Trustmark Park history on Saturday night.

Luke Waddell led off and went 2-for-4 with the M-Braves lone run. Jesse Franklin V extended his on-base streak to 18 games with a walk in the first, and Drew Campbell doubled in the fourth to extend his hitting streak to a season-high six games. Campbell went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

In his fourth Double-A start, Tyler Owens pitched three innings and allowed one run. The 22-year-old was recently added as Atlanta's No. 28 prospect on MLB Pipeline.

Scott Blewett pitched two shutout innings out of the bullpen. After 13 starts, Blewett has made four relief appearances and allowed two runs in 9 2/3 innings.

The two clubs were tied at 1-1 through five innings, but Montgomery exploded for six runs on six hits and an error in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead.

Jake McSteen and Kyle Wilcox each tossed two scoreless innings in the final four innings of the game, but the M-Braves could not get anything going offensively in the 7-1 loss.

The M-Braves have a scheduled day off before a six-game road series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas (Double-A Affiliate, Los Angeles Angels) from August 8-13. The M-Braves will return home for a six-game series against the Biloxi Shuckers (Double-A Affiliate, Milwaukee Brewers) from August 15-20.
