Montgomery Biscuits News Release
BILOXI, Mis.. - The Biscuits (19-11) fell behind early and never recovered in their 6-4 series-opening loss to the Biloxi Shuckers (15-16) on Monday night at MGM Park.
Josh Fleming (3-2) made his sixth start of the season, and while he worked a 1-2-3 first, he would run into trouble in the third, surrendering a two-out RBI-triple to Cooper Hummel and then an RBI-single to Dillon Thomas in the subsequent at-bat that put the Suckers ahead, 2-0.
An inning later, Fleming appeared to be getting out of a jam with a runner at third and two outs, inducing a groundball to second baseman Robbie Tenerowicz, but the former Cal Golden Bear juggled the transfer, which scored Weston Wilson, and made it a 3-0 ball game. Patrick Leonard was up next, and the former Biscuits slashed an RBI-double to left to make it 4-0.
The Biscuits had a hard time cracking Shuckers starter Johan Belisario until the fifth when a Josh Lowe RBI-single brought a run back for the Butter and Blue. Michael O'Neill extended the Shucker lead back to four with a missile of a home run in the fifth, before a wild pitch and a Rene Pinto RBI-double got the Biscuits within two at 5-3 in the top of the sixth.
Dillon Thomas' RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth made it 6-3 and then Dalton Kelly launched his third home run of the season over the left-center field wall to make it 6-4 in the seventh. But Nate Griep was too much for the Biscuits over the final two innings, securing his sixth save of the year and the victory for Biloxi.
The Biscuits will look to rebound on Tuesday when Riley O'Brien makes his Double-A debut against Trey Supak (2-1) at 6:35 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for a five-game series against the Mississippi Braves with Family Faith Night featuring a Faith Radio Pre-game Concert and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, May 11 at 6:05 PM CT. The home stand will also feature Mother's Day featuring a Stemless Wine Glass Giveaway presented by Filet & Vine on Sunday, May 12; the third and final Grand Slam School Day of 2019 on Monday, May 13; and Biscuit Appreciation Day featuring an Over Mitt Giveaway on Tuesday, May 14.
