November 1, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
CHL Headlines for Monday, November 1
Hot at the Top- The two teams currently on top of their respective conferences are also the two teams with the longest active win streaks in the CHL. The Turner Conference leading Colorado Eagles (5-1-0) have rebounded after an opening night loss to Arizona by winning five straight games outscoring their opponents 23-11 over that stretch. The Berry Conference leading Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (7-2-0) have won four straight games and are a perfect 4-0 away from home (the start for the 'Bugs matches the best in team history-through nine games). This week, the Eagles will play a pair of games at Hara Arena versus the Dayton Gems and the Mudbugs will play at Mississippi on Friday night and host Allen on Saturday.
Lucky Three at Three- Three CHL clubs boast modest three-game win streaks - the Wichita Thunder (3-4-0), Dayton Gems (4-1-0) and Quad City Mallards (3-3-0). For the Thunder and Mallards, the streaks are welcomed after tough starts to the season as Wichita lost their first four games and the Flock dropped their first three. The Gems have been consistent all season taking advantage of a season-opening four-game home stand (went 3-1-0), following that up by topping Bloomington on Saturday in their first road game. Prior to Saturday's 4-2 loss, the PrairieThunder had been unbeaten. This week, the teams will see stiff tests with the Gems hosting the Turner Conference leading Colorado Eagles (5-1-0) in a battle for first place in the conference, games on Friday and Saturday, while Wichita hosts Arizona (2-4-0) and travels to Missouri (2-3-1) to face a team they are winless against in 11 tries all-time. For the Mallards, thei r tests feature a game at Evansville (2-3-1) on Friday and back home versus Bloomington (4-1-0) on Saturday.
Getting Familiar: Jacks and Bucks at it Again- The Odessa Jackalopes (2-4-0) and the Laredo Bucks (2-2-1) will meet on Tuesday night for the third straight game but this time the venue changes to the Laredo Energy Arena. The teams split two games in Odessa this past week with Laredo winning 6-1 on Thursday night and the Jackalopes coming out on top 4-2 on Saturday night. For Odessa, the game in Laredo begins a four-game road trip that continues to Rio Grande Valley for a pair of games and concludes in Texas. For Laredo, it will be the first game of a five-game home stand and overall they will play eight of their next nine at home. Laredo's Neil Trimm leads the way in the head-to-head match-up with five points (2-3=5). The Bucks did the unthinkable in the two games keeping the high-powered Jacks offense off the scoreboard when on the power play (0 for 14).
