Windsor Spitfires News Release
A back-and-forth game came down to a late shorthanded goal on Thursday night, as the visiting Owen Sound Attack escaped the WFCU Centre with a 6-4 win.
With the Spits looking for the go-ahead goal on the power play, Cameron Brace stole a puck from Chris Marchese at his own blueline, before busting in and beating John Cullen at 12:56 of the third period for the eventual game-winner.
Brace led Owen Sound offensively with a pair of unassisted goals, including an empty-netter, while Daniel Catenacci and Gemel Smith had a goal and assist each, as the Attack (17-13-2-2) pulled even in the standings with the Spitfires (17-15-3-1).
Alexander Khoklachev had a pair of goals (16,17) while Chris Marchese had a goal and two assists - his first ever three-point game - in his Spitfire debut.
Marchese's goal got the Spits even at 3-3, on the power play, just 14 seconds into the third period.
Khokhlachev's second at 3:41 put the home side up 4-3.
But Keevin Cutting's fourth of the year knotted the game again at 10:33.
Kerby Rychel and Adrian Robertson each chipped in a pair of assists.
The loss snapped Windsor's four-game winning streak.
The Spits wrap up the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule with a visit to Saginaw on Saturday night.
