AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas offense kicked into gear on Wednesday night as they pounded out 19 hits in a 14-6 seven-inning win over the Edinburg Roadrunners in front of 1,947 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Chris Holguin (1-0) got the win in his first appearance for Amarillo as he went five innings and gave up three earned runs off seven hits, allowing just one walk while striking out eight batters. The Dillas responded as Recuenco hit an RBI double to score Stephen Douglas in the second to tie the game. In the third, Joaquin Rodriguez walked, Carlos Figueroa doubled and Daryl Jones singled to score Rodriguez. Sam Palace hit an RBI double to score Recuenco while Palace went to second on an error and scored on a Jermel Lomack single for a 7-1 Amarillo lead.
Following a two-run triple by Vince Blue and an error brought another run home for the Roadrunners in the fourth, Douglas followed a Jones single with his fourth homer of the season for a 9-4 Amarillo advantage.
Edinburg scored twice in the sixth off two RBI singles from Alexis Hernandez and Pino to pull the deficit to three, but the Dillas scored again in the bottom half. Figueroa led off with a single and went to third on a error. Douglas reached second on another error which scored Figueroa. After a Cruz walk and a Recuenco single, Sam Palace slammed a two-RBI double for a six-run lead.
Singles from Rodriguez and Figueroa were followed by a Jones RBI double and an RBI groundout from Douglas for an eight-run lead. After the inning, the umpires ended the game due to weather to give the Dillas a 14-6 victory.
