Laredo Broncos News Release

Levy Ventura hit a three run homer in the fifth inning; his second of the evening; to give the Thunder a 4-1 lead and put Coastal Bend (19-27) in a position to win game two of the double header over the Broncos (20-27); which they did by a score of 4-2.

Game two of the double header between the Laredo Broncos and Coastal Bend Thunder featured two lefties. On the mound was Brian Buchanan (4-2) for the Broncos and Frank James (3-2) for the Thunder.

A scoreless ball game after one inning was broken up by an RBI double off the bat of Albert Gonzalez that allowed Lamar Guy to score all the way from first base and give the Thunder the 1-0 lead against Buchanan and the Broncos.

The Broncos offense recorded just two hits through the first four innings of the game until the top of the fifth.

Back to back singles put runners on first and second for Mike Murphy, who laid down a sacrifice bunt.

David Fowler then reached on a Fielder's choice when levy Ventura tried to throw out Doug Thennis at the plate, the throw was late and the Broncos tied the game at 1-1.

Levy Ventura made up for his failed attempt to cut down the tying run at the pate in the top of the fifth by crushing a three run homer run; his second in as many games; in the bottom of the fifth after Buchanan issued back to back walks to Dustin Smith and Ron Fenwick. After five full innings in game two the Thunder were in the lead 4-1.

In the top of the sixth with the starter James still in the ball game the Broncos inched closer after a single by Nick Mahin, Doug Thennis then singled.

The Thunder left fielder committed an error that allowed Mahin to score all the way from first and make the score 4-2 Thunder.

Thunder closer J.J Trujillo came on in the bottom of the seventh and faced only three batters in the inning, picking up his third save of 2010 and putting the finishing touches on the 4-2 game two victory for the Thunder.

WP: James (3-2)

LP: Buchanan (4-2)

S: Trujillo (3)

The Broncos and Thunder are back in action tomorrow night with game four of the five game series at Veterans Field. Tomorrow is Thirsty Thursday with $2 beer all game long. First pitch at 7:35 PM.
