Shorebirds Snap Hickory Eight Game Winning Streak

The Delmarva Shorebirds scored twice in the second inning and six times in the third inning avoiding a sweep and snapping the Hickory Crawdads eight game winning streak with an 8-3 win at L.P. Frans Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

Hickory starter Joe Bauserman gave up an infield single to Delmarva LF Quincy Ascencion leading off the second. With two outs, 2B Ryan Steinbach walked and CF Lorenzo Scott's triple scored both runs.

The Shorebirds got a double from DH Zach Dillon leading off the third against Bauserman. Delmarva 1B Vito Chiaravalloti's two run homer made it 4-0. After a triple from LF Arturo Rivas and a run scoring double from Ascencion, Bauserman was replaced on the mound by Derek Antelo. With one out, catcher Kyle Dahlberg made it 6-0 with an RBI single. Dahlberg moved to second on a throwing error and scored on Steinbach's RBI base hit. A two out triple from SS Blake Davis capped the inning and made it 8-0.

Hickory rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third against Delmarva starter Brad Bergesen. With one out 2B Cameron Blair was hit by a pitch. After a single from 3B Eddie Prasch, Andrew McCutchen doubled to left field, it got Hickory on the board and an error allowed Prasch to score and make it 2-0. McCutchen came home on a two out RBI single from LF Jason Delaney making it 8-3.

Bergesen worked six innings allowing three runs on seven hits in the win. Bauserman was tagged for six runs on seven hits in two innings in the loss. Reid Hamblet earned a three innings save allowing two hits and no runs in the final three frames. Crawdad reliever Brian Holliday pitched four scoreless innings and gave up just one hit.

The Crawdads host first place Lakewood in game one of a four game series starting Wednesday night at 7pm. Pirates first round draft pick Brad Lincoln makes his Hickory debut on the mound. Lefty Zach Cline takes the hill for Blueclaws.
