GreenJackets Take Series from Catfish with 7-4 Win

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (13-13) stroked 10 hits but left 11 runners on base and committed four errors in a 7-4 loss to the Augusta GreenJackets (20-6) on Tuesday. With a unique 11:00am first pitch the Catfish fell behind early and were unable to come back. 2B Eugenio Velez led the Augusta attack with two home runs and three RBI.

Augusta was up 2-0 before Columbus got on the board in the bottom of the third inning. 3B Russ Mitchell singled to shortstop to score SS Ivan DeJesus.

The GreenJackets extended the lead to 4-1 with two runs in the fourth inning but Columbus bounced back with one in the bottom of the frame. With two outs 2B Shane Justis singled home CF Bridger Hunt.

Three runs in the top of the eighth inning made it 7-2 in favor of Augusta, but Columbus started a rally in the bottom of the inning. After the first two outs were recorded the Catfish loaded the bases with a RF Chris Jensen double and walks to Hunt and DeJesus. Justis then drove in two runs with a single to center field.

RHP James McDonald (2-8) allowed four runs in six innings and was tagged with the loss. He gave up four hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters. RHP Shairon Martis (6-4) permitted two runs in five innings and got the win. The save went to RHP Osiris Matos, who tossed a scoreless ninth inning.

Justis went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Catfish. He is batting .392 (20-for-51) with 14 RBI in the last 17 games.
